Simple Needs

Don't throw out your babies with the spilled ink.

I just decided to erase

a verse that paused before my face

but didn’t have the time or grace

to satisfy me in that place,

yet here I go and write a few

more mundane words with voice anew

in hopes that they might hold my view

another moment, maybe two,

and if they don’t, you’ll never read

the words I’m writing—wasted seed—

but if you read them, then indeed

you’ll know that they fulfilled some need.
